Liquidating a company? Price the archive before the servers go dark

Liquidation lists usually stop at inventory, equipment, leases, the brand and sometimes the customer file. Years of email, Slack, tickets and code tend to vanish when the servers are switched off.

That order now leaves money on the table.

01

Unpaid workspaces are deleted

Slack, Google Workspace and GitHub delete accounts that stop paying. Hold off cancelling until buyers have pulled a sample, and ask each vendor's support team if a lapsed account can be restored.

Pewter accepts US companies with 20+ staff and 3+ years of data whether they are still trading or not, and it cautions that archives vanish during wind-downs. Software subscriptions are usually among the first expenses cut. For the archive, cancel them last.

02

Start the inventory with the dissolution paperwork

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is a liquidating company's data worth anything?

Often yes. Wind-down data deals typically run $10K to $100K, and larger archives can draw much more.

When should I cancel Slack and Google Workspace?

After a buyer has reviewed the data, or you have decided not to sell. Cancelling first can delete it.
